It might be getting on a bit, and overshadowed by the new Range Rover Sport, but the Discovery 4 is still a thoroughly practical and sensible SUV.

Here's my review

I desperately with that we could get a decontented Disco here. Supercharged V6, or NA V8, coil springs, no sunroof, no electronic _______ (insert urban focused technology) assist or any of that non-essential gubbins, oh and standard with the off road group; locking diff, bigger tires, additional cooling. and I would kill for one with that diesel. EDIT: you know what? its not that bad actually, I can get everything I want here in the US (minus the diesel) for $51,000 which is ~ 31,000 British lbs, or 8 grand less than what a similar model (though with a diesel) would cost there. Things are okay after all.

It's very much a Land Rover rather than a Range Rover - and long may Land Rovers continue as the brand continues on its upward trajectory

I just wish we got more engine options. I drive a 2012 RR Sport HSE and the 5.0 V8 is essentially useless. It isn't very fast and it just sips gas. I'd rather sip gas and have 510 hp. If I'm going to go slow, then the diesel is always the better option.

We get one engine in the Discovery - TDV6 3 litre. In the RR Sport and RR we get TDV6, TDV8, V8 Supercharged and Hybrid

I love this body style so much more then the range rovers. I'd buy this over one any day.

Yeah I'm aware. It's just the typical American anti-diesel campaign. At least JLR is being somewhat sensible and dropped the 5.0 NA V8 and put in the supercharged V6 on the new RRSport and RR.

Hopefully this new updated one will make it to the US. (it's called the LR4 here for some reason)

Not for long. I am pretty sure they are dropping the LR# and going back to Discovery.

As far as the body style, I drive an LR3 which very similar, and I like it a lot. But for me, I kinda like the Range Rover a bit more. I go back and forth.

That's good to hear. Discovery is a much better name. Hopefully we get actual engine choices as well. The only current option is a V8 that gets exactly 4 miles to the gallon. I'd love to see a diesel. I wonder how big the price gap is going to be, and if people are willing to pay more for the range rover.

I've got an 09 with the 4.4 V8. It's not too bad, I average high 14 and 15. On trips if I set the cruise on 75 or a little less, I can get 18-19. I even got 21 on a trip from Dallas to OKC with a decent tailwind, keeping in mind that is a dead straight shot with no real hills or anything.

I know the LR4s have a larger V8 so I guessing it's worse?
